Secret Private Screening--October 19, 2008 12midnight

It was my distinct honor to host a private screening event for whoever could make the midnight "premiere" of Hi8 1/2 back in mid-October. Once the documentary was complete (or near complete) I wanted to schedule something in the fall so that people--particularly the former students who "star" in the movie--had a chance to see it before I sent it out on the hopeful festival tour (big hopes!). So the most opportune time to hold the event was during Hun's alumni weekend when a good number of alumni would be back in the area.

It turned out to be a great little gathering of alumni (and friends) spanning the twelve years I've been teaching at Hun. Thirty folks in all. Not bad. There would have been more in attendance if only there weren't so many bars to compete with, vying for the attentions of drunken reunion revelers. Anyway it was great to see friendly faces from the Classes of 1998 up to 2008. After the many months (and years) of piecing this thing together, I was actually able to show it to the one audience that mattered--my former students. It was a real treat to watch them watching the movie. Of course, to truly gage if this doc has legs, it has to successfully play to audiences who don't know a soul on the screen. We'll see.

That's all for now...gotta git the govenor.
